Milwaukee, WI - The Bel Canto Boy Choirs, under the direction of Ellen
Shuler, are seeking new members for the second half of their 2012-2013
season.
Boys who love to sing and are entering the third through twelfth grades, with changed
or unchanged voices, are invited to audition for the second half of the 2012-2013 season of the Bel Canto Boy Choirs. Interested boys can attend a no obligation "Try It, You'll Like It" rehearsal on Thursday, January 10th or 17th at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 W. Walnut St. in Milwaukee. To attend a "Try It, You'll Like It" rehearsal, please call the Bel Canto Office at 414-481-8801. Boys do NOT need to bring a prepared piece to sing.
About Bel Canto Boy Choirs
Founded in 2009, the Bel Canto Boy Choirs give young men the opportunity to develop musically and socially in a supportive and fun atmosphere. The Boy Choirs perform choral repertoire from classical to modern, and have performed on concerts with Bel Canto Chorus, the Vienna Boys Choir, the Midwest Vocal Express, and Germany's Chorknaben Uetersen. The are also featured on the December 2012 MPTV production of "Christmas in the Basilica" with the Bel Canto Chorus. The Bel Canto Boy
Choirs were praised by music critic Elaine Schmidt (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, October 11, 2010) as being "well-trained, nicely balanced, (and) disciplined."
The Boy Choirs rehearse on Thursday evenings at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 W. Walnut St., just north of downtown
Milwaukee. The remainder of the 2013 season will include performances on the March concert of Bel Canto Chorus, and a stand-alone concert in May.
About Ellen Shuler
Ellen Shuler holds both Bachelor and Master of Music Eduction degrees with Choral Emphasis. Prior to founding the Bel Canto Boy Choirs in 2009, Shuler was a director with the Milwaukee Children's Choir for seven years. She has taught and performed in Wisconsin, Idaho, Montana, and New Hampshire. In addition to her position with Bel Canto Chorus, Shuler teaches at University School of Milwaukee, directs the youth choirs at Mequon United Methodist Church, and maintains a private voice and piano studio.
About Bel Canto Chorus
In its 82nd year, Bel Canto Chorus is a premier choral group with approximately 100 adult singers, primarily from Southeastern Wisconsin and Northeastern Illinois. The chorus performs between October and June at various venues throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. The 2012-13 season includes performances of Prayers for Mankind by Alexander Levine; Gloria by John Rutter; All-Night Vigil by Sergei Rachmaninoff; and Ein deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms.
