Gallery 2622 to host New Exhibit by Melissa Musante
Wauwatosa, WI — Perhaps best known for her work as the former Executive Director of the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network (MARN), Melissa Musante will have her first solo exhibition of paintings at Gallery 2622 in Wauwatosa. The exhibition called “Dauinge” will open March
1st, 2013 and run through the end of the month. An opening reception will be held from 6pm-9pm on Friday March first at 2622 N. 76th St.
This collection of paintings is deeply personal for Melissa. They reflect the current tumult in her life as she transitions careers. The abstract works reflect not only the darkness often felt when one knows not what the future holds but also the anxious excitement of unlimited opportunities. Like the potential of a new day the light bursts for from the canvas.
Musante says “I’m really excited about this new body of work and with this new chapter in my life.It feels so great to be back in the studio working! For a long time I was so focused on helping others that I found nothing left for my own creative pursuits.”
Melissa Musante is a multi-disciplinary artist with a deep commitment to building the creative economy across South Eastern Wisconsin. With a long history of service to Milwaukee’s arts community in both volunteer and paid roles. The former Executive Director of the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network has also served as Film Wisconsin’s Associate director and was instrumental to important tax incentive legislation to promote the film and television industry. Additionally she was the National Outreach Sales Manager for Utrecht Art Supplies from 2003-2006. During this time she had the opportunity to visit many of the country’s other arts centers. She learned during those visits that Milwaukee’s art scene highly respected across the country and Milwaukee artists are truly producing some of the best work in the country.
Today she continues this commitment to the creative sector as “The Creative Realtor” helping people working in the arts realize home ownership as a path to a more sustainable future.
Musante graduated cum laude from the Peck School of the Arts with a BFA focusing in Film & Theatre. As a visual artist she has shown her work at galleries throughout the Milwaukee area. Melissa is also an independent filmmaker whose short films
have graced the screens of festivals across the country.
