Milwaukee, Wisconsin Actor Matthew Nichols will be appearing as District Attorney Joe Paulus, in the premier episode of Investigative Discovery Channel's "True Crime With Aphrodite Jones: Burning Passions" (NBC Universal Production). The premier episode is scheduled to air on Monday, March 4th, at 9:00 p.m. (Central Standard Time) Additional airings will be on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 12 a.m., and again on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. (CST). Focusing on the John and Sandy Maloney murder/arson case in Green Bay, WI from 2001, this episode features interviews with John and Sandy’s sons, important legal and crime scene investigator players in the case, as well as extensively detailed re-creations of key moments in the story.
The episode was shot over a period of six days in September 2012, with the cooperation from a variety of local businesses, services and skilled actors across the entire state of Wisconsin.
The episode will feature Matthew Nichols who plays Joe Paulus, the former Winnebago County District Attorney. Paulus was the prosecuting attorney in the high profile case of accused Green Bay Police Officer, John Maloney. He was a controversial political figure that created a reputation for running his office with an iron fist and an outstretched hand. Paulus pounded on defendants in high profile cases presenting himself as the great crime fighter, while he took bribes to fix cases on the sly, involving police, lawyers, judges, elected officials, fellow prosecutors and other citizens. Paulus pleaded guilty to taking more than $48,000 in bribes between 1998 and 2000. He served a four-year federal sentence and a two-year state sentence, both at the same federal prison in Florida.
