Neptune Short-Short Synopsis:
Affected by the sudden death and disappearance of one of her peers, an orphaned girl raised by the church on a small island off the coast of Maine, falls into obsessive mania before discovering her own spiritual path.
Neptune Short Synopsis:
Neptune is set on an island off the coast of Maine. Fourteen-year-old orphan Hannah Newcombe has been raised by the church under the overbearing influence of its resident cleric, the insular Jerry Cook. When a boy Hannah's age is washed out to sea she becomes increasingly obsessed with his disappearance. Haunting dreams and visions occupy Hannah’s mind and she is moved to pacify them. She takes a job on a lobsterboat in a position previously held by the missing boy; her limited upbringing becomes affected by something broader and more elemental. She lashes out at those around her, severing ties and eventually
breaking free from the island to find spiritual autonomy.
Co-written by Konkel and Kimball, Neptune is an exploration of an orphaned girl’s manic journey to self-discovery, stirred by the tragic death and disappearance of a peer and the solitude of life on a small Maine island. "Identity search is a rich and wide subject matter both Derek and I are fascinated with," says Konkel. "With Neptune we hope to expand on the themes established in our short films I Want You To Know and The Bully, and create a piece that further explores the elements of identity search
while also pushing the boundaries of cinema story.”
